The U.S. National Arboretum is currently closed due to the lapse in federal government funding. It will reopen once Congress restores funding.

Directions

By Metrorail

Stadium-Armory, served by the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines, is the closest Metrorail station to the Arboretum. Metrobus Route C41 connects the station and the Arboretum. From Stadium-Armory, board a northbound bus and ride 13 stops to disembark at Bladensburg Rd NE and Rand Pl NE. Walk one block south to R Street NE and turn left onto R Street. The Arboretum’s entrance gate is at the end of the street, about two blocks away.

From Northwest Washington

To R Street Gate: Follow New York Avenue east to the intersection with Bladensburg Road. Turn right (south) onto Bladensburg Road and continue four blocks to R Street. Make a left on R Street and continue to the end of the road.

To New York Ave Gate: Follow New York Avenue east past the intersection with Bladensburg Road. Bear right onto the access road just past the Fairfield Inn & Suites, about 800 feet after the intersection, and follow it for approximately 1/4 mile to the Arboretum gate on your right.

From Maryland

To R Street Gate: From the Capital Beltway (I-496/I-95), take Exit 22B onto the Baltimore-Washington Parkway towards Washington. Follow the Parkway for approximately 7 miles, then merge onto New York Avenue. You will pass the Arboretum on your left before arriving at New York Avenue’s intersection with Bladensburg Road. Turn left onto Bladensburg Road and continue four blocks to R Street NE. Make a left onto R Street and continue to the end of the road.

To New York Ave Gate: From the Capital Beltway (I-496/I-95), take Exit 22B onto the Baltimore-Washington Parkway towards Washington. Follow the Parkway for approximately 7 miles, then merge onto New York Avenue. You will pass the Arboretum on your left. Just before New York Avenue’s intersection with Bladensburg Road, there is a small turn lane from the left lane in front of the Fairfield Inn & Suites. Make a U-turn and move into the far right lane; in approximately 400 feet enter the access road on the right. The Arboretum gate will be on your right in about 1/4 mile.

From Virginia (I-395)

To R Street Gate: Take I-395 North across the 14th Street Bridge and follow signs until the freeway ends at New York Avenue. Turn right onto New York Avenue and proceed east to the intersection with Bladensburg Road. Turn right (south) onto Bladensburg Road and continue 4 blocks to R Street. Turn left on R Street and continue to the end of the road.

To R Street Gate: Take I-495/I-95 across the Wilson Bridge, staying in the right lane. After the bridge, bear right onto I-295 North. Continue straight when I-295 becomes DC-295. From DC-295, take the exit towards Rt. 50 West/New York Avenue. You will pass the Arboretum on your left before arriving at New York Avenue’s intersection with Bladensburg Road. Turn left onto Bladensburg Road and continue four blocks to R Street NE. Make a left onto R Street and continue to the end of the road.

To R Street Gate: Cross the Roosevelt Bridge and follow Constitution Avenue past the Capitol Building. Bear left onto Maryland Avenue. Follow Maryland Avenue to Bladensburg Road. Turn left onto Bladensburg Road and continue 1 mile to R Street. Make a right onto R Street and continue to the end of the road.

To New York Ave Gate: Cross the Roosevelt Bridge and follow Constitution Avenue past the Capitol Building. Bear left onto Maryland Avenue. Follow Maryland Avenue to Bladensburg Road. Turn left onto Bladensburg Road and continue 1.3 miles to the intersection with New York Avenue. From the right-most lane, turn right onto New York Avenue. About 800 feet down New York Avenue, bear right onto the access road. The Arboretum gate will be on your right in about 1/4 mile.
